Building the Backbone of E-Mobility: Reflections from Africa E-Mobility Week 2025

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia | 14–16 October 2025

This week, leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the continent gathered to shape the future of electric mobility in Africa. I had the privilege of representing Chogori Technology, sharing how the invisible systems beneath the surface—the connectors, cables, and interfaces—form the technical backbone of every e-mobility ecosystem.

While much attention rightly goes to batteries, chargers, and vehicle assemblers, the reliability of these higher-tier systems depends on the precision, safety, and durability of the components connecting them. That's where Chogori operates—quietly but critically, ensuring that technology performs consistently in every environment.

Connecting Global Capability with Local Growth
Imports are essential to spark adoption—getting vehicles on the road and confidence in motion. Yet lasting transformation depends on industrialization: developing local capability, strengthening supply chains, and creating skilled employment.

At Chogori, we see ourselves as bridge-builders between today's global supply hubs and tomorrow's localized manufacturing base. Our connectors and cable assemblies already support African pioneers such as ROAM (Kenya), Ampersand (Rwanda), and Dodai (Ethiopia)—companies leading 2- and 3-wheeler electrification across the continent.

Currently, much of the integration for chargers and battery systems still takes place in China, where mature manufacturing ecosystems exist. But the partnerships emerging across Africa highlight that affordability and sustainability come from progressive localization—reducing total cost of ownership through standardization, modularity, and regional serviceability.

We believe imports light the spark, but local industry builds the engine.
